Stamps and postcards have been a large part of our history. Both stamps and postcards have had several eras throughout our history that defined each one in special areas. Stamps and postcards alike have been collector’s items and covered a variety of categories. In the 1930s, both stamps and postcards were used by the government to help promote economics in the United States. The stamps and postcards are now considered vintage cards and are, in some cases, very valuable. Both of these items are usually influenced by popular subject matter in that particular era. Thus, when movies overtook the public in the 1930s and 1940s, stamps and postcards were printed and produced with movie themes on them.
In the ‘30s and ‘40s, movies became a retreat for many Americans because of the wartime activities. Because movies were so popular, stamps and postcards reflected the classic movie titles. Westerns were first introduced on postcards and then other classics came along, including “Gone With The Wind” and “To Kill A Mockingbird.” Through the years, movies have continued to be popular items for pictures on these items. Disney movies have also been published several times. More recently, “Star Wars,” “Lord of The Rings” and the “Harry Potter” series have become collectibles. These series have been produced in sets for the collector. The ”Indiana Jones” series has also been published in a set. Purchasing, trading and selling is frequented among those who have vintage cards and stamps.
Many brokers and auction houses that specialize in these items are found through publications. The locations of the various broker houses for selling can also be found on the Internet. In some cases, coin collectors in your area may have the appropriate books for you to find an assessment.
