Rainbows incite happy feelings and a sense of mystical wonder in people. Aside from their beauty, they have associations with religion, mythology, and literature. The marketing arena for unlimited types of merchandise uses the rainbow on their products with much success. Stamps and postal cards are important to people to facilitate communication, as well as being significant items for collectors. Rainbows on stamps and postal cards extend a cheerful greeting reaching many people.

The intense beauty of one of nature’s most phenomenal creations, the rainbow, sparks religious overtones in many people. Religious analogies to the rainbow have been made in many ways. A favorite analogy is that the rainbow is a gift of calm after a storm and peace after turmoil.

Greek mythology viewed the rainbow as a path between heaven and earth. Chinese mythology associated the rainbow with a Goddess named Nuwa who used colored stones to close a hole in the sky. Centuries old literature pays homage to the rainbow. One example is William Wordsworth’s poem “The Rainbow” written in 1802.

When used as a marketing tool the rainbow is obviously successful, and has been seen for years on apparels, flags, mugs, calendars, business cards, dishes, children’s items, and the list goes on. There is no limit to how many ways the rainbow has been used and will be used to sell products of all types.

Rainbows are universal. Stamps and postal cards are used throughout the world. With these thoughts in mind, the rainbow with all its beauty and meaningful references would be a perfect choice to emboss stamps and postal cards.
