The Animals of Africa on Stamps

Any stamp collector who loves animals is sure to have stamps of the wildlife of Africa. They will start with stamps that are from African countries. If you want to start a collection, you might start with a set of four stamps from Nambia issued in June 1997 of small wild cats. The cats include a carical, a cerval, and two African wild cats. To that you may add the January 1998 issue of large cats from Nambia. The stamps include a male lion, a female lion, a leopard, and a Cheetah.

In 1989, Zimbabwe issued a set of stamps of endangered animals. It is a set of six stamps with a rhino, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, crocodile, and antelope. They also issued a birds of prey stamp in 1984 that has several species of eagles, and hawks. Endanger species are a common theme for African stamps. In 1988 Transkei issued four stamps showing two different deer/antelope species, a wild dog and an African Wild Cat. If you are interested in larger animals, Kenya issued a stamp showing a single bull stamp in 1966. In 1959, a British colony stamp of Kenya and Uganda was issued with two elephants and the Queen.

Venda, Africa issued stamps of animals from the Nwanedi National Park in 1990. There are four stamps, one of a male lion, one of a zebra, one of a Cheetah and one of a rhino. In 1994 they also issued a set of stamps showing four different member of the monkey/ape family. There are many countries in Africa, and each has its owns set of stamps, both current and vintage. Collecting just African animals on stamps would give you a huge collection of varied and unique stamps.
