Famous Paintings on Postage Stamps

There are many famous paintings that have been replicated on postage stamps around the world. The Internet seems to be the logical place for stamp collectors to find the postage stamps of famous paintings. An example of famous paintings on postage would be the mint sheet of a 1632 oil painting of "Man in Oriental Costume" by artist Rembrandt Van Rijn. This is available from ArtonStamps.com.

It may not exactly be considered a famous painting, but China-Taiwan celebrates the Disney move, "Finding Nemo," on three circular and two rectangular stamps. Disney is also featured on a sheet of special stamps in the United States. It's Mickey Mouse this time in four different movies. The Mint Sheet of 20 Stamps has descriptions of these scenes on the back of the fantastic sheet. Browse the art category on the CoolStamps.com website.

Even the United States Postal Service offers postage stamps for purchase online at usps.com. You can find supplies for the stamp collector at this site, as well as postage stamps. There are several paintings of "Madonna & Child" as early as a 10-cent stamp of the painting by Girlandaio issued on October 1975. There's also one by Botticelli issued on October 28, 1981.

You can also create your own postage stamp by selecting a background from a famous artist's painting.
